Why Choose OE

No-Compromise Formulations

We had one rule throughout our formulation journey - no shortcuts, no compromises. We are razor focused on what we are here to do: create world-class skincare and haircare formulations that embrace and celebrate our ethics. So we found the best ingredients that are backed by scientific efficacy, we ensured we chose from farms that are responsible and certified organic, we replaced commonly used animal by products with equally result oriented plant based alternatives, all of this against the backdrop of our commitment to planet positive impact.

We Push for Better Standards

Whether it's why skincare only uses fair, thin, young, female models, whether it's about fooling customers with false marketing and hidden ingredient lists or whether it's about reducing packaging material, we challenge the status quo. If it doesn't fit our ethics, our values, we push until we create new standards.

We Are Transparent

We have done all of this for you. So why would we keep it to ourselves! We want to bring you in on our journey, on our learnings. We want you to know exactly what your ingredients are, where they're coming from, what they're doing on your skin and why it works. Knowledge is power and we want to give you the power to make informed decisions.

FAQs

The COSMOS-standard is a cosmetic certification developed to harmonise various certifications and labels that previously existed. The COSMOS-standard association consists of five founding members who authorise and oversee the certification, including the Soil Association (UK), Ecocert (France), Cosmebio (France), BDIH (Germany) and AIAB/ICEA (Italy). The “COSMetic Organic Standard” was officially launched in February 2011, in order to create one standard that is internationally recognised for natural and organic cosmetics. COSMOS-standard AISBL is a non profit organization. The main goal is to uphold the inspection and certification of organic and ecological products, eco-friendly systems and respect for the environment throughout the production chain.
Within this standard are the core principles of prevention and safety, reflective from the production of raw materials to the distribution of finished products which includes: 1) Promoting the use of products from organic agriculture, and respecting biodiversity 2) Using natural resources responsibly and respecting the environment 3) Using processing and manufacturing that are clean and respectful of human health and environment 4) Integrating and developing the concept of "Green Chemistry" instead of using petrochemicals 5) Providing transparency for consumers
1) Physically processed agro-ingredients – organic agriculture that reflects pure or allows simple processing; 2) Chemically processed agro-ingredients – certifiable by using agricultural organic raw materials and manufacturing processes that are clean and authorised, all under the umbrella of “Green Chemistry”; 3) Water – non-certifiable and must comply with hygienic standards; 4) Minerals and ingredients of mineral origin – non-certifiable, requires clear environmental rules in their use, and in further processing; 5) Other ingredients – a very limited list of preservatives and some ingredients allowed as long as there are no effective natural alternatives available to ensure the safety of consumers or efficacy of the product.
COSMOS-standard certified products are labelled with the signature “COSMOS ORGANIC” An Ecocert Cosmos Organic logo is indicative of Cosmos Organic certification carried out through Ecocert, an authorized certification body.
ECOCERT Founded in France 1991, used to specialise in the certification of organic agricultural products and was the very first certification body to develop standards for "natural and organic cosmetics. ECOCERT's certification standards now fall under the broader COSMOS-standard noted above and set forth in early 2017.
A COSMOS Organic Certification applies to a product, not a brand. Each product has to go through inspection and audit every year for the certificate to be renewed. The brand cannot continue to use the logo on the product unless the certification is renewed.
